Ysart Tradition & Scottish Glass 2005

Conference Announcement

August 6th & 7th 2005
Perth Museum & Art Gallery, Scotland.

Announcing a conference for collectors of Scottish glassware and paperweights, with emphasis on the glass produced by the Ysart family at Moncrieff's Glassworks, Perth, Scotland, beginning in 1922. The purpose of the conference is to provide collectors and researchers with a forum to share information and to exchange experiences.

For the first time, this conference is to be held in Scotland at the Perth Museum & Art Gallery. Taking place on August the 6th and 7th 2005, conference will be able to accommodate just under 100 attendees. Collectors have already registered from Scotland, England, the Netherlands, Canada, USA and New Zealand. Speakers will include Ian Turner (Researcher, author), Peter Holmes (Scottish glass master), Kevin Holt (Paperweight researcher), and Dave Moir (Vasart/Strathearn glassmaker).

The conference is also in need of one more speaker to cover the area of "Design influences on current Scottish Glass". If you are interested in taking part as a speaker, please contact the organisers. See Below.

It is hoped that a similar conference can be presented in the future, possibly on a bi or tri-annual basis. The organisers would also like to see the conference cover the work of all Scottish glassmakers, past and present.

Ysart Website

Frank Andrews, co-author of one of the definitive books on Ysart Glass, has developed an information-only website: www.ysartglass.com. Frank has used extensive research to build the site, which is augmented by images and additional research provided by dozens of collectors world-wide.

This Website, along with all the research material it has generated, will be donated to the Perth Museum & Art Gallery at the above conference. This website demonstrates how a global community of collectors can collaborate to create a valuable and permanent resource for all who wish to become knowledgeable on the history of Glass.

A modest endowment fund is being established, which will produce income for financing the maintenance of this site by the museum. A minimum fund target of £5,000 should start to meet these needs and any surplus income will be used to fund future research or purchases for the Museum's permanent collection. All donations are welcomed and any businesses or individuals wishing to contribute should contact the conference organisers.

If you wish to contribute towards this fund appeal, please visit www.ysartglass.com/Support.htm for more information.
