Elisa Paola Sani:

'Glass hanging lamps and their use in Renaissance Italy'

Glass hanging lamps or cesendelli, the name found in Venetian documents for such lamps of glass or metal, are extremely rare survivals and less than a handful of examples are known.

The author will investigate their function, stylistic development and uses by looking at contemporary paintings and surviving specimens in museums and private collections.

Elisa Paula Sani is a Research Fellow at the Courtauld Gallery; she has previously worked at the V & A, Wallace Collection, and private galleries.
